Our Story: Preserving the Voices of Heroes

For over 30 years, his voice was everything. As an Air Traffic Controller, our founder relied solely on his voice to guide countless aircraft safely through the skies. That same voice—once a symbol of clarity, calm, and command—was threatened when he faced his own battle with head and neck cancer. As a disabled veteran, cancer survivor, husband of 30 years, and father of five, he understood profoundly what losing the power of speech—his connection to his family and the world—would truly mean.

That understanding was deepened by the memory of his father, an Air Force veteran whose voice was gradually silenced by Parkinson’s Disease, slowly cutting off his connection to the world before the disease ultimately claimed his life. During that time, our tech-savvy founder set up an iPad and Bluetooth speaker system to help his father communicate—keeping his voice present in the home, even after it had left his body. That moment cemented a lifelong conviction: the fight against silence isn’t just personal—it’s a mission for every veteran facing a similar threat.

From that deeply personal mission, Operation Voice was born. We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that veterans, particularly those diagnosed with head and neck cancer or other conditions affecting speech, can preserve and restore their unique voices.

Our Mission & Approach

We believe a voice is more than just sound—it’s identity, independence, and connection. Losing the ability to speak can be isolating and devastating. Operation Voice exists to combat that isolation.

Empowering Communication

We provide veterans with simple, powerful, and accessible technology—including iPads, speakers, AI software, digital voice banking, and speech tools—to help them communicate effectively when speech becomes difficult or impossible.

Proactive Preservation

Working closely with doctors, veterans’ groups, and technology innovators, we focus on empowering veterans before treatment impacts their ability to speak. Using secure, user-friendly voice banking tools, we help them digitally preserve their natural voice. This creates a personalized synthetic voice they can later use to communicate in their own tone, style, and words—even without the ability to speak aloud.

Dignified Solutions

Our kits and methods are designed to be simple, portable, and respectful—ensuring veterans retain their dignity while staying connected to loved ones and the world around them.

If you or a veteran you know is facing a diagnosis that could impact their voice, Operation Voice is here to help keep the conversation going—and ensure that no voice is ever lost to silence.
